Weekly Programs

The Colleyville Lions Club has a program scheduled every Friday, except one Friday each month reserved for business of the club.

Programs are entertaining and varied. The club offers the opportunity to become involved with civic and community work, as well as, enjoy informative and entertaining fellowship and programs every week!

Following is a brief example of some of the recent Colleyville Lions programs:

April 30, 2010 - Marty Wieder, City of Colleyville Director of Economic Development

Presented an economic study developed by Catalyst Consulting Services, Dallas Texas.  His presentation is the part one of two presentations.  The second presentation will be held Friday, May 14th.

The study consisted of economic data compiled by Colleyville and includes:

  • Identify by license plates who shops in Colleyville
  • Merchandising analytic survey
  • Recession affected categories
  • Retail vacancy is basically flat
  • Colleyville Zip Code is fifth richest in state
  • Colleyville is leader in returning the 2010 census

This data will be used to attracting retailers to Colleyville.  The survey presents many positive reasons to locate businesses in our city.

The lack of visibility has hurt the Village in attracting retailers.  However, the newest retail building under construction on Colleyville Blvd should help this situation.

The vacant Kroger Store on Colleyville Blvd will probably remain vacant since their lease runs through 2018.  The owner will collect their rent until then; therefore they have no incentive to find a new leaser.

April 23, 2010 - Lion Russell Shelley - Fire Chief, Colleyville Fire Department

Addressed the membership on their capabilities in responding to emergency medical situations.

They demonstrated the proper use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Automated Pulse Unit (APU).  The city has 30 AEDs located in various locations each costing approximately $2,000 and cost of each APU is $16,000.

The Fire Department can schedule  CPR classes for groups and organizations by contacting Fire Fighter Lt Eddie Moran.

April 16, 2010 - Lindy Toner

Addressed the membership on the mission of Prevent Blindness which provides screening, eye exams and eyeglasses to children and adults.

March 26, 2010 - Lion Raymon Cannon, Colleyville Police Community Services Officer

Addressed the membership on the Citizens on Patrol.  The Citizens on Patrol program is a volunteer organization, developed to assist the Colleyville Police Department by having additional eyes on the road.  The volunteers, Colleyville citizens who have completed the Colleyville Police Academy program, along with some additional training, use an older police car with distinctive markings to patrol.  They concentrate on patrolling around Colleyville business areas to prevent crime just by being seen.  Their mission is crime prevention as they are not police officers.  This type of program exists across many cities in Texas and other states.
